There's a new #1 in this week's rankings, as Washington Athletic stumbled out of the gates to regional rival ORSU. The win shoots ORSU up to #6 (from #9), and drops WAC just behind them at #7. The top 6 teams move up, and Life West will need to defend its new #1 ranking this weekend in a tough NorCal tournament where Berkeley will give them a run for their spot.

In other areas of the rankings, form trumps standing, as the Chicago Lions edge out Midwest #1 Metropolis after the Lions won the Legacy 7s in Michigan. Similarly, Boston leaps over cross-town rival Beantown after doing better at the Showdown at the Shore. Boston isn't currently in a position to qualify due to tiebreakers, but their form indicates they'll be favored when they see Beantown this weekend in Saratoga. Cincinnati takes a small tumble after dropping to third in the Midwest.

The Kansas City Jazz debut in the top 20 after defeating the Rocky Mountain Magic at the Rocky Mountain 7s. The Jazz were defeated by the Magic in pool play but won in the cup final when it mattered. This weekend's Heartland 7s will determine which of those two clubs gets to go to New York in August.
